Not Reaching the Goals you Set?
It’s very frustrating!
How many of us have set a goal but failed to achieve it? We know it’s important, we know it’s attainable, and we have the desire to make it happen, but time goes by and it’s just not done. Why?
One reason may be: We don’t delegate.
Now if you’re already proficient at delegating, stop reading now. You don’t need this. But if you’re like me and a large percentage of our peers, you are not good at delegating.
And you’ve got reasons for not delegating. Reasons like: “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.†Or “I’m a ‘renaissance’ man / woman and I do everything for myselfâ€.
But a lot of things in life don’t have to be done the way that you or I would do them. Often, if we would just give the job to someone else, they would do a (please don’t be offended) BETTER job than you or I would do.
AND we are kidding ourselves if we think we can do everything personally. If you stick with that idea, brace your self right now to not get much done in your life.
Here is a myth that we have all been fed. “Time is moneyâ€. WRONG! That makes it sound like there is some equality between time and money. May I save you a great deal of sorrow right now by straightening out your thinking?!?
Time is WAY more valuable than money!
Let me restate that: if you have a choice between wasting time and wasting money, by all means – WASTE THE MONEY! You can get that back, you can earn more. You can borrow more. (I don’t recommend it, but you can even steal more). But here is the myth breaker: you can not get more time. Time is NOT money!
OK, how can we benefit from this truth?
One way is to delegate as much as possible. Find the people who are capable and convenient and let them free you up to do a few things well.
A great question that I’ve stolen from Brian Tracy (the success guru) is: “What can I and only I do?†ask yourself that often. If you are a business owner, there are a very few core duties that you really should do, but if you’re like me, you never have time to do them because you’re sweeping the shop (or something else just as delegate-able).
I am now persuaded to believe that this advice can make the difference between success and failure for you and me. Now I just hope I can talk myself into actually letting go of a project or two.
