My Vision
Sherry Brantley has a vision for her second book, entitled ‘Best of Friends’ and she'd like to share it with Book Clubs and individual readers as well. It consists of assisting women to form their own "Best of Friends" groups nationally, with positive, focused intentions to create a better vision of themselves—in all areas of their lives.
Her book ‘Best of Friends’ has won two National Awar ds for ‘Best Fiction of the Year.’ It is a fun, witty read, and readers are connecting and identifying with each of the main characters. The book is based on the events surrounding the sudden, unexpected death of the matriarch of a family, the chaos that ensues among family members unhappy with the contents of the will, and the metamorphosis that occurs with each character during that trying time. It details a friendship amongst five women, cultivated over time, and shows the importance of having good solid ‘female friends,’ in ones life. The book is a work of ‘faction’—a cross between fact and fiction, as it depicts the events that occurred surrounding the author's own mothers’
death. One would think this would be a very somber topic, but the book is actually done in a light, somewhat humorous retelling of events, and many readers have written to express the fact that once they begun reading it, they did not want to put the book down before completing it. They are also asking for a prequel of the book, so that they may see how the friendship among the ladies was first developed and how it evolved to being the tight-knit group they eventually become.
This is where Sherry's national vision comes in, allowing readers who enjoy a good read, to partner with her to expand this tiny sapling into a major forest. Sherry's vision is to personally visit with=2 0Book Club Members nationally who have purchased 'Best of Friends' to guide them to form their own 'Best of Friends Goal Group.' Many women long to become members of a group that is forward-thinking, positive in it's goal-setting and is designed to assist them to experience the grandest version of the vision they hold for themselves. Sherry has personally formed such a group, and will take time to assist interested members in beginning their own successful goal groups by sharing the "Seven Successful Key Points' to maintain an even balance for Mental, Financial, Physical and Spiritual growth!
Sherry's background consists of having been a parenting instructor for Michigan State University. She worked with parents from all walks of life, across racial, socio-economic, various religious faiths and backgrounds, young and old, experienced and inexperienced parents, and parents of both genders. Some of the families were court-ordered to take the courses but she also worked with parents who attended classes willingly on a voluntary basis. Their ultimate goal was to implement proven techniques to increase communication skills within their family units, as well as to utilize the techniques learned, in their work environment and within their other relationships as well. As a result of that experience, Sherry's first book, “Choices—The Power is Within You," was conceived. That literary accomplishment details the literal, Personal Power we all possess, and is designed in a personalized workbook format for readers to work at their own pace to learn how to effectively promote self-growth in many areas. In it, Sherry shares her own personal experiences such as becoming a single parent through divorce, and as a result, having experienced being: homeless, jobless and clueless—but not hopeless!
Sherry's purpose in life is to assist others in their own empowerment process by sharing with them tools, skills, and techniques that can be used immediately. Her workshops, seminars, and retreats are fun, lively, entertaining, and interactive, as she takes you on the "never-ending journey of power." She has spent over ten years motivating groups. Her workshop titles include: "The Advanced Me,"
"Raising 'YOU CAN' Kids," "Tapping Into Your Personal Power," "'Write'
to 'Right' Your Life," "Goal-Setting in 'Bite-Sized' Chews," "The R.A.V.E. Way," and more!
Sherry has been in demand to speak at universities, community colleges, public schools, women's organizations and various associations.
As a writer of the "Voices" column for her local newspaper, The Lansing State Journal, Sherry wrote inspirational/motivational pieces to inspire others to positive action. Her first true story, "More Than A Penny's Worth," is still a favorite for her audiences to hear.
In 1990, She was sought by Senator Riegle's U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs in Lansing,=2 0Michigan, as a spokesperson sharing the many needs and concerns of the homeless. Her public appearance generated statewide attention to the plight associated with homelessness and assisted Senator Riegle's task force in their efforts to address those needs effectively. Sherry also worked diligently with an organization whose goal was to provide affordable, decent housing for low-to-moderate income families. Many of the families she worked closely with had never before conceived moving into a home of their own. She was able to assist them through the process of not only owning their dream homes, but of understanding and appreciating their right to do so.
In 1994, she was sworn in by President Bill Clinton as an inductee in his Americorps initiative program. Her powerful poem"What Americorps Means To Me" was a national favorite among her Americorps Team.
In 1995, she was given recognition as an Outstanding Americorps Member by the Michigan Community Service Commission, headed by Gubernatorial First Lady Michelle Engler.
